About Chris Richards and the Flying Squirrel Craft Shop
I live in St. Just in Penwith, Cornwall, and am interested in a wide range of traditional crafts and have trained in many areas including embroidery, patchwork and quilting and a range of painting and dyeing techniques. I have won awards for both my patchwork/quilting and my machine embroidery.
I have a particular interest in traditional textile techniques from around the world, and spent the summer of 2004 in British Columbia and South-east Alaska researching the Chilkat weaving and artwork of the Tlingit and Tshimshian people. Their intricate, complex artwork is truly amazing. My visit inspired a range of textile works, from photographs which have been trasferred onto fabric and framed, to applique from my own drawings, and patchwork/quilting.
In 2008 I opened my new shop in Fore Street in St. Just. I can be found here working on commissions which vary from taking up hems, replacing zips to creating beautiful new patchwork quilts.
